CUSP Classes are for individuals who need additional assistance when engaging in group fitness. These may include additional visual cues, smaller steps and/or smaller class sizes. The classes are restricted to six athletes, allowing for more individualized guidance. Skills taught will be based on the individuals current skill ability and goals. Activities will be a hybrid of gymnastics and tumbling, yoga and stretching, ninja and agility, and include a social skills component, where individuals can work on developing relationships with peers and coaches.
Classes are taught by Ronica Crevecoeur, (Coach Ronica), a Special Education doctoral candidate, who is a veteran Preschool Autism Classroom (PAC) educator. Inclusivity, diversity, and PLAY are her passions. Fostering environments where our neurodiverse friends have a safe environment to explore, be silly, and have fun is the goal! In partnering with emPOWER kids CUSP Classes, Coach Ronica provides the perfect place to create a fun environment where participants can work on skills for a more active lifestyle and independence, as well as building and maintaining friendships.
Coach Ronica will work with athletes and parents on preparing and moving to the emPOWER kids classes. The following criteria will be utilized to determine readiness:
C - Comfortable with larger groups
U - Unity with peers (appropriate social engagement)
S - Safe: Remains with group, keeps hands to self, follows rules when on equipment
P - Prepared: Displays some independence in engaging in skills
Coach Ronica uses the science of behavior change to improve the health and wellbeing of those with special needs and their families.
CUSP classes will resume in Winter 2024.
